Patrol Division

The patrol division of any police department is the bridge between its citizens and the full scope of aid a police force can provide. These deputies are the first responders when calls come through the 911 server. The responsibility to make the correct judgement call and initiate an appropriate response is the reason the Baker County Sheriff’s Office devotes all the necessary energy and resources into training their patrol deputies.

The Patrol Division is overseen by Major Randy Crews and split into two sections. These sections are led by two Lieutenants who assign the deputies using a grid overlay of the county so that every quadrant has an active-duty deputy on site. These factions rotate shifts regularly to ensure a fresh officer is ready to respond to any situation.

Major Randy Crews

Major Randy Crews has been a lifelong resident of Baker County, Florida. After graduating from Baker County High School, he began his law enforcement career as a corrections officer before applying as a patrol deputy in 1990. He quickly excelled in this role, rising to the rank of Patrol Sergeant and receiving a letter of commendation for his work in a drug operation. Crews then moved on to the Detective Division, investigating burglaries and narcotic-related cases.

After receiving a commendation for his successful prosecution of a homicide case, he was asked to join the Major Drug Crimes’ DEA HIDTA Task Force. Crews continued to work on the task force in addition to becoming an instructor at Florida Gateway College for narcotics and other law enforcement courses. In 2011, he was presented with the Outstanding Officer Award from the Department of Justice and United States Attorney’s Office for his work on the HIDTA Task Force.

As of January 2017, Crews returned to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office as a Major, overseeing the various departments within the facility including the Patrol, Detective, and Emergency Management Divisions. Major Crews continues to bring his varied experience and valued work ethic to his position. He resides in Glen St. Mary with his family, Kristina, Shelby, and Taylor.
